PICCOLI ROOM

The Piccoli programme supports toddlers as they begin to assert independence and develop language, coordination, and social awareness. With carefully chosen Montessori materials, children are encouraged to explore, practise practical life skills, and gain confidence in a supportive and respectful environment.

A PREPARED ENVIRONMENT FOR EXPLORATION

The Piccoli space is carefully designed to meet the developmental needs of toddlers. With accessible materials, child-sized furniture, and purposeful activities, children are encouraged to make choices, move freely, and engage in meaningful work. This environment supports the growing desire for independence while providing a sense of order and security.

ENCOURAGING INDEPENDANCE & CONFIDENCE

In the Montessori Piccoli environment, children are supported to do things for themselves — from caring for their belongings to participating in everyday tasks, such as wiping, sweeping, washing, and more. this is also the stage where we implement and encourage independent toilet training. Educators gently guide and model, allowing children to build confidence through real experiences and develop a strong sense of self.

We honour the unique cultural context of Aotearoa by fostering a strong sense of belonging and connection within our environment. Through respectful relationships, care for the environment, and inclusive practices, we support each child’s identity and wellbeing in alignment with both Montessori principles and Te Whāriki.
